Adsorption Characteristics of Poly Anilin-Montmorillonit Nanocomposite for Cesium Ions from Aqueous Solutions

Development of technologies for Cs capture from aqueous solutions is very important in nuclear waste treatment and still remains a significant challenge. In this study, synthesis of poly aniline-montmorillonit nanocomposite was carried out using sol-gel method to investigate its cesium adsorption ability. Synthesized PANI/MMT nanocomposites were characterized using the x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, infrared (IR) .The adsorption process has been investigated as a function of pH, contact time and temperature by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) and the optimum conditions were obtained. Results showed that the adsorption was strongly dependent on the pH of the medium whereby the removal efficiency increases as the pH turns to the alkaline ranged to 8. The process was initially very fast and the maximum adsorption was attained within 120 min of contact and at 55° C.
