The effect of Hyperbranched aromatic polyamide on the Nylon 6 membranes morphology

Abstract:
In this study a novel microporous membrane was prepared using nylon6 and hyperbranched aromatic polyamide by phase inversion method. The hyperbranched aromatic polyamide was synthesized by direct polycondensation. The morphology of membrane was confirmed by SEM. The SEM images show that pore sizes and porosity increased. Also, completely new fingerlike pores were observed in cross-sectional SEM images. Addition of hyperbranched aromatic polyamide into the membrane dope resulted in an increase in water content and water flux. Thermal properties of membrane were investigated by DSC. The results show that amounts of crystalline areas are changed compared to pure nylon 6 membrane.
