Effect of Hexamethylenetetramine Dicyanamide Cadmium Nanostructured particle on Gas separation properties of Polysulfone Membrane

Abstract:
In the present study, the separation of oxygen, nitrogen, methane and carbon dioxide gases by using Polysulfone/Hexamethylenetetramine Dicyanamide Cadmium (PSF-MOF*) mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) were investigated. All PSF-MOF* membranes were prepared by solvent evaporation method using phase separation. The prepared nano composite membranes were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) tests. The obtained characterization results revealed that the Hexamethylenetetramine Dicyanamide Cadmium nano particles were compatible with polymer matrix well and homogenously distributed in the matrix. The performances of prepared membranes in gas separation were evaluated at 10 barg and 30 ◦C. The obtained results showed that in the present of Hexamethylenetetramine Dicyanamide Cadmium nano particles in polysulfone structure, the permeability of carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrogen and methane gases decreased respectively from 6.16, 1.57, 0.49 and 0.21 Barrer in pure PSF to 5.00, 1.26, 0.29 and 0.12 Barrer in the Nano composite membrane containing 2.5%wt Hexamethylenetetramine Dicyanamide Cadmium particles. Also the performances of separation of CO2 from CH4 , separation of CO2 from N2 and separation of O2 from N2 were increased by adding Hexamethylenetetramine Dicyanamide Cadmium nanoparticles in PSF matrix, The maximum selectivities of CO2/CH4, CO2/N2 and O2/N2 were measured as 41.56, 20.01 and 5.07 in the Nano composite membrane containing 2.5%wt Hexamethylenetetramine Dicyanamide Cadmium particles, respectively. Based on these results and as well as Robson curves, it is determined that the mixed matrix membrane with 2.5 wt% Hexamethylenetetraamine Dicyanamide Cadmium in comparison to pure polymer has a better performance in gas separation.
